When should you migrate from Bubble? The honest decision framework.

Four signals that say it is time, three that say it is not, and what migration actually costs.

The question we get more than any other: 'Is it time to migrate off Bubble?' The honest answer is that it depends on four signals, and most teams act on one when they should be reading all four.

Four signals that say it is time

1. You have a compliance deadline you cannot meet on the platform

SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, GDPR with data residency, PCI DSS — Bubble's compliance page documents what it covers. If your auditor needs controls, logging, or data residency guarantees that Bubble's shared infrastructure cannot provide, the platform is the ceiling, not your team.

2. Your PageSpeed score is in the mid-50s and not moving

A well-optimised Bubble app typically tops out around 55–62 on mobile PageSpeed. If you are already there and conversion is speed-sensitive, you are touching the platform's ceiling. No amount of plugin removal will get you past it.

3. You are going into a funding or acquisition due-diligence review

Technical due diligence asks for the codebase, the dependency tree, the deployment pipeline, and the security audit. 'We are on Bubble' is a legal and technical answer, but it typically results in a risk line item in the deal. Teams that migrate before the round close at better terms than teams that migrate during it.

4. Your team needs to customise something the platform does not expose

If you are spending more than 20% of engineering capacity on workarounds for things that would be a one-hour change in a real codebase, the platform is costing you more than it is saving.

Three signals that say it is not time yet

  • You have fewer than 5,000 monthly active users and no compliance requirement. Build features, not infrastructure.
  • You are pre-revenue or pre-product-market fit. Bubble's speed-to-market value is highest here. Migrate after you know what you are building.
  • Your PageSpeed is in the 30s. That gap is plugins, uncompressed images, and client-side filters — fixable on the platform in a day.

What migration actually costs

Simple Bubble apps (under 10 data types, under 20 workflows, single user role): 4–6 weeks, $1,975–$4,500.

Mid-complexity apps (10–30 data types, complex workflows, 2–3 user roles): 6–10 weeks, $4,500–$8,500.

Complex apps (multi-role platforms, payment flows, integrations, 50k+ rows): 10–16 weeks, $8,500–$14,000+.

Every migration project starts with a free architecture audit. We tell you which category you are in and quote a fixed price before any work starts.
